    About This Tool

Why Every International Student Needs a Grade Converter in 2026

There's a specific anxiety that hits international students during application season — the moment you realise your grading system is invisible to the institution you're applying to. CGPA Global was built to fill that gap. It's a translation layer between 50 different academic languages, converting your grade to a universal percentage then expressing it in whatever system the world needs.

How It Works — The Universal Bridge Method

Every grading system can be expressed as a percentage of the maximum possible grade. Your grade is first converted to a 0–100 percentage using your country's formula, then mapped onto the target system. For systems with known quirks — Germany's inverse scale, France's grading culture, Italy's 110-point scale — additional calibration is applied to reflect real-world interpretation.

The inverse scale trap: Germany, the Philippines, and historically Russia use grading systems where a lower number means a better grade. Germany's 1.0 is the equivalent of a US 4.0. Without knowing this, a 1.0 might look like a fail to someone unfamiliar with the system.

    The Most Common Conversion Pairs

    • Nigeria 5.0 CGPA → UK Honours: A Nigerian First Class (4.50+) equals a UK First. Second Class Upper (3.50–4.49) equals a UK 2:1.
    • India 10.0 CGPA → Percentage: The standard formula is CGPA × 9.5. A 9.2 CGPA becomes 87.4%.
    • German grade → US GPA: A German 2.0 maps to approximately US GPA 3.0.
    • UK 2:1 → US GPA: A 2:1 is roughly GPA 3.0–3.6 depending on the exact percentage.
    • Australia 7.0 → US 4.0: A High Distinction (6.5/7.0) is approximately US GPA 3.85.
